Skeletal Body Update

Dothan Police are still trying to identify a body that was found in a wooded area nearly two weeks ago, but the job may not be easy.

Right now, investigators are not even sure if the victim is a man or a woman.

The skeletal remains were found by a survey crew off John D. Odom Road Oct. 20.

Police say the body may have been there for years.

The bones have been turned over to a state crime lab for analysis.

Investigators are trying to locate dental records from local missing persons cases but some of those cases are so old that records may no longer exist.

Captain Steve Parrish says DNA tests are still a possibility, but that process could take months.

Police have determined that a pair of tennis shoes found near the victim were manufactured only between 1992 and 1995.
