Geneva County Shooting

The death of a Northwest Florida man has Alabama authorities asking questions.

Early Saturday morning, Geneva County deputies arrived at a mobile home in the rural Hacoda Community.

They found William Thames dead on the kitchen floor. The 41-year-old Westville man had been shot.

The shooting took place following a Halloween party at the home.

Several others were reportedly inside the residence when the fatal shot was fired.

Witnesses told authorities that Thames picked up the shotgun and it accidentally went off.

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward says the case is far from being closed.

At this time, no charges have been filed in Thames' death. It remains under investigation.
