Researchers have found being overweight affects girls academically as well as socially, as early as elementary school.
Girls who became overweight between kindergarten and the third grade suffered a decline in test scores and social skills than girls who weren't overweight.
But boys who gained weight in their early school years had much fewer negative effects.
Specifically, reading and math test scores were significantly higher among
Normal weight kids compared to those who were overweight especially among girls.
