Holiday Alert

Gov. Siegelman said security is being stepped up to guard against any possible terrorist strike during this Fourth of July holiday.

Siegelman said the National Guard is on alert for the holiday, and additional security is being as what he called "critical places."

The FBI has said it plans to monitor major Independence Day parades and festivities as a precaution against an attack.

The agency also has asked police to be on heightened alert.
