The Houston County Commission has approved plans to create a county Industrial Development Authority.
The commission hopes this will help the rural areas grow economically.
The authority would only add to the municipalities in Houston County’s jurisdiction that already have such a board.
The panel's job would be to attract industry, which would spur economic growth throughout the county.
"It was a very complicated matter, [with] a lot of legalities, but a very positive and progressive thing for the county to do. Hopefully, it will benefit the citizens of the unincorporated and the smaller towns in the future," said Chairman Mark Culver.
The board will be made up of seven members, who will be approved by the commission.
