Florida School Fire

School has been in session for less than a week in Washington County. But, a fire broke out in the gym of Vernon High School and has caused extensive damage.

State fire marshall officials spent much of the day sifting through debris inside the gymnasium.

Authorities are saying the fire looks suspicious, but aren't sure of the cause.

Around 7 o'clock Wednesday night, neighbors reported flames and smoke coming from the gym's roof.

Several area volunteer fire departments battled the blaze for more than three hours.

The gym received between $200,000 and $300,000 in damage.

It's not clear where students will go for gym classes.

This fall, work will get underway on a new $15 million Vernon High School.
