The ongoing work to four-lane Highway 52 through Geneva County could begin again in about a year if everything goes as planned.

A public hearing on the project was held at the town hall in Taylor.

Phase One four-laned the highway from Dothan to Taylor. Phase Two will stretch about four miles from Taylor to Malvern.

No formal presentation was made, but maps were available and engineers were present to answer questions from some 50 property owners who will be affected by the project.

State highway department officials say the meeting clears the way for right-of-way acquisition to begin. Eighty-percent of the work will be federally funded. The work on Phase Two will cost about $9 million.
