A police dog was killed near a busy intersection in Panama City Beach after the five-year-old Belgian Malinois escaped from his handler's home.

Authorities believe Boris was struck and killed by a car Wednesday. He had wandered away from home on Monday.

The death leaves Panama City Beach's police K-9 unit with just one dog.

Boris's owner says his dog was extraordinary. He says he and the dog were walking along a street one day when the dog started nosing around a car. Drugs were found in a sealed bag in the windshield washer fluid container.
