Tax Plan Poll

A new poll shows Governor Riley's $1.2 billion tax and accountability plan trailing by 21-percentage points.

The poll was conducted by a group that supports the plan, the Alabama Education Association. Pollster Gerald Johnson says the survey shows the margin tightening when voters receive more information about Riley's plan.

But opponents of the tax plan say the purpose of the poll was to try to change the minds of people who say they are voting "no."

The AEA's survey of 562 voters was conducted from July 21 to July 29. Fifty-one-percent of those surveyed say they would vote "no" if the referendum were Friday. Thirty-percent say they would vote "yes" and 19-percent were undecided. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1-percentage points.
