Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver says after meeting with Gov. Bob Riley, he's convinced Alabama's budget crunch will get much worse before it gets any better, unless the state legislature takes action.
Culver says a lack of money will force the closing of the state lab at the Houston County Health Department.
But he says state officials will provide a courier to take water samples and other materials to Montgomery for testing so services will not be completely shut down.
Culver says the governor assured him the statewide cutbacks currently being implemented will only be the beginning without additional revenue.
Culver says state lawmakers will have to approve new taxes when they meet in February to avoid further cuts.
