Child Tax Credit

Uncle Sam may be sending you a check in the mail soon as part of President Bush's tax relief plan.

The IRS is now sending tax checks to Alabamians who claimed the child tax credit on their 2002 tax returns.

The payment of $400 per child is an advance refund of the expected child tax credit for the 2003 tax year.

The IRS is using last year's tax data to automatically figure who will get a check.

A local financial expert says the child credit will help boost the economy in the short-term by helping parents pay for school supplies.

Those making less than $26,000 per year will be excluded from the tax credit.
