Smoking Ban Meeting

If a public forum last night in Dothan indicates how residents feel about smoking in restaurants, then it might soon be illegal to light up in public eateries.

A proposed ordinance would outlaw smoking in all eating establishments including bars which many restaurant owners oppose.

About 60 people showed up last night to voice their opinions.

Only one person spoke in favor of keeping the current law, which allows restaurants to set up smoking and non-smoking areas.

City officials say they are amazed to hear little opposition on the matter.

Several more meetings will be held in the coming weeks to gauge public opinion before the city commission makes a decision on the issue.
