On Friday morning, a local pastor was killed in a two-car accident, but some say the death of Reverend Ronald Cole could have been avoided, and one elected official says the Geneva County intersection could be made safer.
Geneva County Coroner Max Motley was one of the first on the scene. At a certain point, he says there's a blind spot at the intersection of Geneva County Roads 64 and 65.
Motley studied the two roadways, which meet in the rural Five-Points Community, three miles outside of Coffee Springs. Officials say it appears Reverend Cole's 1984 Honda pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle traveling on County Road 65.
Motley says with shrubs and a dip in the roadway, it creates a blind spot. He says he is haunted by the horrendous scene.
On Sunday, 47-year-old Reverend Cole was buried at the Piney Grove Baptist Church outside of Samson where he had been pastor. The driver of the second car was not badly injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Highway Patrol.
