Alabama's School Budget

School board members and superintendents from across Alabama are gathering in Montgomery to hear exactly how bad Alabama's budget crisis is expected to be next year.

State School Superintendent Ed Richardson and members of his staff spoke to a meeting of the Alabama Association of School Boards on Sunday.

Richardson has outlined the options for cutting $140 - $190 million from next year's education budget.

For some school systems, those options may include cutting the school day to six hours, eliminating or reducing school bus transportation and offering only required courses and not programs such as band, chorus and athletics.
