By Labor Day, more than 400 jobs will be lost in the Wiregrass. Johnston Industries will be closing its Opp textile mill and they'll scale back operations at a second facility.
And, an area newspaper is starting a unique service to help these people get back to work.
Andalusia Star News Editor Jeffery Biggs says it's time to be proactive. The Star has launched a placement section in the classified where job seekers can place a mini-resume for free.
The ad will be part of the South Central Alabama Classified Marketplace. It will appear in a half-dozen area newspapers reaching about 180,000 readers.
Circulation Manager Sheila Ennis says the calls from displaced workers can be heart wrenching.
There's a 25-line maximum allotted space per ad. The job seeker must be able to show that he or she is out of work.
Laid off workers interested in posting a mini-resume should contact the Andalusia Star News at 334-222-8887, extension 360.
