White Embezzlement Update

A woman who confessed to one of the largest embezzlement schemes in Houston County history will not be getting out of prison anytime soon.

64-year-old Grace White admitted stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars, but she came close to getting out of prison after spending just two months behind bars.

White pled guilty in February to 27 counts of theft of property.

She was accused of stealing more than $400,000 from the Wiregrass Gin Company where she worked.

Judge Larry Anderson sentenced White to 20 years in prison and she started serving her time in April.

But the state prison system considered putting her on work-release. That is, until her victims and District Attorney Doug Valeska objected.

Valeska says he made no deal with White, and in fact, he asked for a maximum sentence of more than 500 years in prison.

White could be considered again for work release in about a year, but Valeska says he will try to keep her in prison.
