The Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank is known for giving to the community.
Wednesday, the organization got a gift of its own.
The employees at first financial corporation picked the wiregrass area united way food bank as their charity of choice.
“First financial donated 40-thousand dollars to the food bank.” Food Bank Development director Julie Gonzales said.
“The owner of our company has always been a giver and he always feels like we should give back.” 1st Franklin Financial Corportation Operations Vice President Mike Whitaker said.
The money will be combined with another donation to get the food bank new wheels, and replace a 14-year-old truck.
“We are trying to increase our mobile pantry here in the wiregrass and get food out to the places that cant get out to the food bank to shop. And an important part of that process is getting a fleet to go out on the road without any complications.” Gonzales said.
Food bank officials say the donation couldn't have come at a better time.
That's because any donations made between March and April could be matched by the Alan Feinstein challenge.
“The money we received from this donation will go into the overall total we submit to the Feinstein foundation, the percentage raised of all the money raised from the food bank will be the percentage of the million dollars we get back from the giveaway.” Gonzales said.
All good news for the food bank, especially since donations are needed in the summer.
