Hatch Act Concerns in Dothan Races

By  |

Houston County Republican Sheriff Candidate, Andy Hughes resigned from the Dothan Police Department. This followed an opinion from the Office of Special Counsel in regard to the Federal Hatch Act.

Enterprise Policeman Lance Tindol has found himself in similar circumstances. The one-time deputy is the democratic nominee for Coffee County Sheriff.

The act prohibits state and local employees from running for partisan office if they are paid with federal money.

Officer Tindol believes the act doesn't pertain to him.

The Office of Special Counsel is also reviewing Enterprise Police Investigator Corey Mason's campaign for Coffee County Coroner to see if it violates the Hatch Act as well.
