After a day of furious public fallout over Wednesday's ruling against reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools, the federal judge who wrote the opinion put an indefinite hold on enforcing it.
The judge said he's giving fellow members of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals time to decide whether to reconsider the case.
The head of Americans United for Separation of Church and State said the ruling is "the worst church-state decision in the past 50 years."
In Dothan, Wiregrass residents, like others around the nation, are outraged at the federal court's ruling on our Pledge of Allegiance.
Dothan radio stations, 96.9, 102.5 and 105.3 invited the public to come out to the Dothan Civic Center and say the Pledge.
Hundreds of people showed up, and Mayor Chester Sowell led the crowd in the Pledge at the Garrison Flag at the new Veterans Monument.
Also, in a separate protest at Geneva City Hall, people showed their anger over the federal court ruling. Mayor Warren Beck, along with several elected officials, expressed shock over the California judge's decision.
More than 100 people came to support the Pledge of Allegiance and its use of "under God."
During the protest, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the crowd and Geneva Chamber of Commerce Director Faye Smith sang "God Bless America."
