Flood Plain Reevaluation

The Army Corps of Engineers has reevaluated a 100-year flood plain in Houston County, which means that thousands of property owners could now save money on insurance.

The land along Cowarts Creek, stretching from Grangeburg to the Ashford area, has not been studied since it was designated a "100-year flood plain" by FEMA.

However, not that it's been reevaluated, thousands of people who own property in and around the drainage area of Cowarts Creek, may be able to take the flood coverage off their insurance.

To see if your land is in this area, visit Houston County's website at www.houstoncounty.org, or call the Houston County Emergency Management Agency at 677-4834.

The EMA can then assist you with a land survey and a letter of map amendment.
