High tides in the Gulf are to blame for the death of an Alabama man.

Thirty-three-year-old Walter Parker, Jr. from Selma drowned Sunday around 6 p.m.

Parker was swimming near the County Pier when he was swept beneath the surface by the undertow.

CPR was administered on Parker by emergency workers but was later pronounced dead at the Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Red flags were flying warning people of the dangerous conditions throughout the day.
