Consumers purchase more than $14 billion worth of products from half-hour infomercials according to the infomercial trade group and electronic retail association.
And the majority of them are legitimate products.
But, the FTC has filed claims attacking more than $1 billion in health marketing.
Just recently, the FTC ordered Wellquest to pay $3.2 million for consumer redress and demanded the company to stop making false claims
This September the Electronic Retailing Association says it will unveil a set of self regulatory rules for the industry, complete with independent reviews of claims.
An enforcement division will work with the FTC on enforcing these rules.
