Ten Commandments Poll

A new poll shows that Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has extensive support in Alabama for his fight to keep the Ten Commandments monument in the State Judicial Building.

The poll was conducted by the Mobile Register and the University of South Alabama.

A large majority of those who responded agreed that Moore should take his case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

However, others say they would not want to pay the legal fees or watch him defy a federal order to remove the 5300 pound piece of stone.

On July 1, a decision by the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that said the monument violates the first amendment's ban on government-established religion.
