New Brockton Police Chief Fired

A long time law enforcement officer in the Wiregrass appears to be out of a job. But, it seems few people are talking about it.

New Brockton Police Chief Jerry Gilbert has until Saturday to ask for an administrative hearing.

The city council recently held an executive session and fired the 18-year veteran.

Mayor Charles Cole has directed all questions to City Attorney Joe Sawyer

Several attempts by News 4 to contact Sawyer have been unsuccessful.

Chief Gilbert is out-of-town and could not be reached for comment.

Lt. Bill King says the town does have adequate police protection at this time.
