As one Dothan official puts it, art is what's bringing life back into the Dothan area. Some would say downtown is coming back thanks to the influence of art.
In fact, within the past year, two new festivals have been created; Dothan's Downtown Christmas and the Wiregrass Festival of Murals.
The downtown group has come up with a new theme, “Dothan Downtown is the Center of the Circle”.
Meanwhile, the State Department of Visitors and Conventions Bureau says 2007 is the year of art and in Dothan, the year of more visitors.
"Every year it's been growing about eight percent, so we hope to be up about eight percent this year," said Dothan-Area Convention Bureau Director, Bob Hendrix.
Bringing even more visitors to the area are the frequent events hosted by the Wiregrass Museum of Art. Those festivities include Art after Hours, which features live bands, food, and of course, art!
"Downtown Dothan has a lot to offer, there's culture, there's history, there's fantastic local restaurants," said Sarah Spencer of the Wiregrass Museum of Art.
Some say a proposed one percent sales tax increase should also add to a more 'artsy downtown'.
"It's been said there might be a children's museum, the relocation of our public library, or even renovate the existing library; there been several other things mentioned," said Dothan Public Information Officer Cynthia Green.
However, those plans won't be official until city leaders receive more feedback from the community and address the city's primary needs.
To add to the night life, the downtown group is looking into a first Friday Block Party.
