A crackdown on drunk driving during the Labor Day weekend proved successful in the panhandle.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office participated in a program called Over the Limit, Under Arrest from August 18th to September 4th, with a department wide focus on removing impaired drivers from our roads.
During the six-day crackdown, there were more than 115 traffic citations issued, 9 DUI arrests, and more than 75 people arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail.
With more than three times the normal number of deputies working the county's roads, authorities were able to remove more impaired drivers and possibly prevent drunk driving related fatalities.
