Commissioners were expected to discuss and possibly vote on a proposed sales tax increase. But that didn't happen.
Parliamentary procedure calls for unanimous approval for discussion the first time an ordinance change has been presented at a meeting. One negative vote closed the floor. Several of disappointed constituents left the meeting without a word.
District 2 commissioner, Amos Newsome, gave the opposing vote. He says while he is in favor of increasing the city's revenue, he voted against discussing the sales tax proposal to allow additional time for his constituents to have their questions answered.
The proposal will not be up for discussion again until the September 19 commission meeting.
