The results of Dothan's city election will be certified today and it seems some Dothan residents are ready for a change. Two city commission seats and a school board seat were being contested.
In the District 6 commission race, long time Commissioner Matt Bullard lost his bid for re-election.
Bullard had been a fixture on the Dothan political scene for some 20 years. However, complete but unofficial returns show him trailing a field of four challengers. Bullard's current term will end in October.
There was no clear cut winner in District 6, businessman Phillip Tidwell was the leading vote getter but without a majority.
That means he will face former Dothan city engineer Gary Martin in a run-off in two weeks.
In the District 2 commission race, Incumbent Commissioner John Glanton received 271 votes finishing first. Challenger Amos Newsome garnered 196 votes for second place, with Tommy Corbett finishing last with 161 votes.
Glanton, however, did not receive a majority of the votes which means he will run against candidate Amos Newsome.
While Commissioner Glanton has been in office for nearly three decades, both candidates say they are ready for the run-off race which will determine who holds the district seat in the fall.
One incumbent in Tuesday's balloting did win his race. Complete, but unofficial returns, show Marc Nelson retaining his seat on the Dothan City School Board with more than 70-percent of the vote.
Once again, official results from Tuesday's election will be certified today at the Dothan City Commission Chambers inside the Civic Center.
The run-off elections in District 2 and 6 will take place on July 22 with whoever receiving the most votes winning the seat.
