Cops on Bikes

Some Dothan police officers are trading in their car keys for two wheels with no keys.

Eight Dothan police officers are participating in a new program called Cops on Bikes.

Instead of wearing the traditional black uniforms and driving around in a police cruiser, police officers will be wearing a gray polo shirt and shorts while patrolling on a mountain bike.

The bikes allow officers to visit areas that are too confined for a police vehicle to reach while providing the opportunity for positive interaction with the public.

Both officers and people in the community believe the program is helping to break down the barriers of misunderstanding encountered on both sides.

The Dothan Police Department began the Cops on Bikes program about two months ago.
