Thursday night in Enterprise, Governor Bob Riley will announce the four-laning of Highway 167 between Enterprise and Troy.
The road is a major hurricane evacuation route from Panama City Beach and the beaches of south Walton County.
The 30-mile stretch between Enterprise and Troy has also been the site of numerous traffic fatalities over the years.
The first section of the four-laning is expected to start around the Spring Hill community in Pike County.
"It’s a heavily traveled road. People leave here to travel to Troy and everybody knows we all like to use the road to the beach road too," said President Kathy Sauer of the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce.
The four-laning is expected to take years to complete.
