Fire and building codes are being strengthened in Dothan.
The fire department is offering an international code conference to inform local contractors, architects and others about the changes.
Fire codes are updated every three years to ensure the best safety in commercial buildings.
The program is being funded by a federal grant awarded to the Dothan Fire Department.
The new building and fire code standards will be fully implemented and enforced in January of 2007.
Dothan city officials are currently reviewing several other codes for property maintenance and residential buildings. If those are adopted, the changes would affect property upkeep within city limits and building standards for homes.
