"96% of the kids leaving high school is because of the system," says Dr. Tommy Bice, Deputy State Superintendent of Education.

Troy University is taking teachers back to the classroom in a one-day workshop geared to improving class quality.

"It's going to cause us to look at education very differently. It's going to basically give us the opportunity to transform the system we had in place," says Dr. Bice.

It's the second annual Wiregrass Conference on Education.

There are several sessions being held for current and upcoming teachers.

"This conference is geared toward K-12 educators that need or want strategies to improve student instruction in the classroom, student achievement and student learning," says Dr. Rodney Davis, Associate Professor of College of Education at Troy University Dothan Campus.

Topics covered include increasing parent involvement, using technology and art in the classroom and leading from the heart.

Which most can be done even in during proration.

"We can complain about what they don't have, but the issue is how we can use what we have to educate the kids to be ready for the challenges that are coming their way," says Dr. Davis.

The keynote speaker for the conference was Dr. Tommy Bice, Deputy State Superintendent of Education.
