Warning: No Swimming on Dauphin Island

Health officials are warning the public not to swim on Dauphin Island's southeast end because of unsafe bacteria levels found during recent tests.

Swimming in the area might lead to an increased risk of illness.

Jeff Davies of the state environmental agency's Mobile office says the advisory is the first ever for Dauphin Island.

The small public beach on the island's Southeast corner was one of 13 added to the agency's beach monitoring program this spring.

A testing site has existed for years at the larger public beach toward the middle of the island.
