Congressman Terry Everett has been representing District 2 in Washington for 16 years.

But now, the Congressman and his wife Barbara have packed up his office in Washington and are making plans to spend more time on their 400 acre farm in Rehoboth.

Everett says he's made a few plans to fill his spare time, but growing old in a rocking chair is not one of them.

With his continued dedication to space and his own hobbies, he'll be keeping himself pretty busy.

"Retirement’s good for those who want to retire but I’ll be 72 in February and I don't care anything about retiring," said Everett.

Although he's turning over his seat in congress, Terry Everett is still serving the country.

This year he'll be the first member of congress to participate in the Air Force Space War Games.

"I'm really flattered that they've asked me to represent the president of the United States who makes the final decision," says Everett.

Everett will also be serving as the first advisor to a group studying the US Space Protection Policy.

But even though he's still working on those projects he says it will be nice to have time to enjoy his hobbies.

"I love to read and reading for pleasure is something that I don't get to do a lot of," he says.

Touring his home he showed us beautiful wood work on the cabinets, stairway spindles and corner blocks.

The carpenter is Everett himself, working from many of his wife Barbara’s own designs.

"I don't believe there's a room in the house that I didn't do something in," he says.

His wood shop is nestled beside a field of fruit trees he's proud to take care of with his high school sweetheart.

"My wife has been a wonderful partner not only in my marriage but in seeing things and doing things for the state and for the constituents," Everett says.

In a final word to District 2 as he leaves he says, "I just appreciate so much them allowing me to serve these years."
