We've all heard throughout the year about the problems the United States is facing at home and abroad.
Retiring Congressman Terry Everett has some concerns as he leaves office.
Just like most Americans, Congressman Everett told us that the current economic situation is on the top of his list.
After four terms in Washington he's finding it hard to hand over the reigns.
"I probably would have remained for another term or two if I had known we'd have this global financial crisis that we have," he says.
In the past year Congress has been fighting to keep the nation afloat.
He voted yes to the first bailout, but now says he isn't sure where that money has gone.
"Congress has not been kept abreast of what's happening," he says, "We were convinced or told that corporation heads would not get these huge bonuses that they had gotten over the years and it's a real sore spot with me.”
He also had some strong feelings about the auto bailout.
"I was just shocked that the big three top executives flew to Washington with a tin cup asking for money to bailout and this bailout was caused by themselves," he says, "The 15 or 35 billion that they're talking about will never ever get the big three where they need to be."
When it comes to the war, Everett hopes President-elect Barack Obama will be careful not to move troops out before the Iraqis can take over.
"He's moving the troops over to Afghanistan. What that means is there'll be no reduction in funding because what was going to Iraq will go to Afghanistan and with all the new programs it's going to be tough to fund this country," says Everett.
As far as the future is concerned he didn't offer much hope saying that it took a while to get in this situation and it's going to take a while to get us out.
Wednesday we'll take a more personal look at the congressman, his hobbies and what he plans to do during retirement.
