Enterprise Resolution

Enterprise officials are worried about a proposed move by the state to take financial control away from local government.

The city council unanimously passed a resolution opposing House Bill 649, a measure that's expected to be discussed in the Legislature.

The bill deals with tax revenues made on sales across the Internet.

But, Enterprise City Clerk Steve Hicks says there's an amendment to the legislation.

It would give the Alabama Department of Revenue tremendous power over cities and counties statewide.

Mayor Tim Alford expressed concern that the state may try to reduce its red ink by saddling local government with most of the deficit.
