A long-time office holder in the Wiregrass was laid to rest over the weekend.
Last Tuesday, Kayo Lewis attended his last Coffee County Commission Meeting.
He died Friday after a long battle with bone marrow cancer.
The 71-year-old had served two-terms on the board. He had been its chairman for two years.
Governor Riley will soon appoint someone to fill the remaining two-and-one-half years of Mr. Lewis' term.
The New Hope Community native had a reputation as one of the board's hardest workers, even attending commission meetings while gravely ill.
Several of his colleagues say Kayo will be hard to replace.
