Eric Rudolph emerged from the Cherokee County jail around 7:15 a.m. He was escorted by sheriff's deputies, the Murphy police chief and agents from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Rudolph stared defiantly at news media as he was brought down the steps of the sheriff's office.

A seven-vehicle caravan is making the trip, and among those in it is Officer Jeff Postell, the Murphy police officer who captured Rudolph as he rummaged through a metal trash bin early Saturday morning.

Rudolph is suspected of bombing an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1998. He's also accused of bombings in Atlanta, including one during the 1996 Olympics. Two people were killed in the explosions.

The final word on where Rudolph will be tried is up to Attorney General John Ashcroft's office.
