Woman Attacked

Authorities report no new developments in the weekend beating of a north Florida woman at an Alabama rest stop on Interstate 65, north of Greenville.

Marilyn Sanders of Pensacola remains in critical condition in a Montgomery hospital. She's suffered severe head injuries, broken ribs and a broken hand.

A sheriff's investigator says virtually no evidence about the attack was recovered.

Sanders' 17-year-old daughter was asleep and was not even aware her mother had stopped. The two were returning from visiting relatives in Tennessee.

Butler County sheriff's investigator Kenneth Hadley said authorities have now turned to the public for possible leads, anyone who might have seen or heard anything unusual at the rest area in the hours before daylight on Friday.

Hadley said a security guard and an attendant were working at the time of the attack.

Department of Transportation engineer Howard Mann manages seven rest areas including the Butler County site. He said it was the first time a motorist had been attacked at one of the districts' interstate rest stops.

Anyone with information can call the Butler County Sheriff's office at 334-382-6521.
