Alabama Sales Tax Higher Than Expected

Wiregrass retailers experienced higher-than-expected sales during the weekend Alabama tax-free holiday.

It lasted from Friday until Sunday.

Many shoppers bought clothes, supplies and electronics to get ready for the beginning of school.

The tax break was intended to encourage shoppers to purchase the tax free items and increase overall sales.

Local retailers are surprised by the results.

“Sales were outstanding. We were pleased they even exceeded our projections,” said Ginger Spry of JC Penny Manager.

City officials plan to release overall numbers, from the tax-free holiday, for Dothan retailers after September 20.
