Medicare Prescription Drugs

House Republicans are considering a plan to charge high-income Medicare patients more for prescription drugs than people who make less money.

The idea comes as lawmakers are trying to come up with a prescription drug plan for Medicare, a health care program for senior citizens and the disabled.

House Republicans now are testing out the idea of setting an income limit for charges associated with a drug plan. One source says the figure of $60,000 a year has been mentioned, after that point a person would have to pay more for prescription drugs.

There does not seem to be any consensus on the idea yet. Some say it is not right to discriminate based on income. Others say the idea would help raise benefits for the poorest people who need them the most.
