Holiday Travel

Americans apparently aren't letting terrorism, SARS or anything else keep them from going where they want to go this Memorial Day weekend.

Justin McNaull of AAA says they'll again hit the road in record numbers for the long holiday weekend that marks the traditional start of summer.

He says the travel services company expects even a few more travelers than last year, when 35 million Americans were on the go, the biggest number in at least ten years. McNaull says about 30 million will travel by car this year, nearly four million will fly and about one and a-half million will use train, bus or boat.

And he says there's good news for highway travelers; gas prices average about $1.50 a gallon now. That's down more than 20 cents from record highs just two months ago.
