Firefighters in Oregon battled half a dozen large fires on Thursday and got news that help was coming from the Southeast and Northeast.
A group of 15 firefighters from Alabama traveled to Oregon on Thursday to join a crew from Florida to fight a rangefire in the far eastern part of the state, and 20 firefighters from Connecticut were to arrive Thursday night in Central Oregon. The Connecticut team's assignment hadn't been determined, said fire dispatch spokeswoman Carol Connolly of the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center.
A team of Oregon fire managers was brought back from Montana to help deal with the outbreak of fires, largely sparked by lightning, she said.
