Cloverdale Elementary Principal Aneta Walker told the group Thursday despite the schools high test scores and consistent achievement, they are still in need of support from the community.
Cloverdale has enrollment numbers that put 70% of students at the poverty level and now they are looking for city and business leaders to aid in developing students there.
“It is important that kids see role models that they actually meet people from the community that have jobs and opportunities where they can say yes...that's what I want to do and give them hope that's what we're really talking about today giving children hope,” said Walker.
The "yes we can initiative" is modeled after a similar plan in Mobile, which took schools there from one of the worst in Alabama to near the top.
