Loan for School Board

County school officials asked the commission last week to implement a one-cent sales tax increase or at least schedule a referendum in August to let voters decide the issue.

But Commission Chairman Mark Culver suggested waiting until after the first of the year to give state officials time to solve the education funding dilemma.

He also recommended that the commission loan the county school system $240,000 over the next few months.

However, County School Superintendent Kenneth Lord asked commissioners to delay action until the school board meets to discuss the loan.
