Dothan City School Board to Talk Uniforms Monday
Dothan City School Board members will hear the recommendation of a group formed to come up with a uniform policy.

The current "Yes, We Can!" campaign aimed at improving schools in Dothan has been multi-faceted.
Bringing the community and parents closer to the educational setting is at the forefront, but during 47 community meetings another topic came up frequently to improve schools.
"In most of those conversations it was mentioned about student appearance," Superintendent of DCS Dr. Sam Nichols said Wednesday. "That we needed to work on that. That it was an issue for us. That students were not dressed appropriately."
The issue has sparked heated debate from parents, students, and school staff.
If you look at the online forum Wiregrasslive.com you will see that a topic discussing the uniform policy has more than 1,000 views and almost 100 posts since Monday. There are many comments for and against the idea of school uniforms.
Dr. Nichols says uniforms could help create safer schools where students can learn more effectively, and save money for parents over the long haul.
"I am sure that not everybody will agree with it," Dr. Nichols says. "I have never developed a policy where everybody did. I certainly feel like it is the right thing to do for our school system, and I think it is going to send the right message to our parents, kids, and entire community."
