The Coffee County Water Authority recently completed its 7-year goal of providing safe drinking water to residents in its rural areas.
Water Authority Board Chairman, Charles Lott, said at Monday's Coffee County commission meeting, he's received several complaints over the rates.
But Lott says the authority must now pay back a large 40-year loan.
He adds that the board must now cover employee salaries, along with increasing fuel prices.
“A lot of people in rural areas have never paid for water, it's just something they'll have to get use to and we hope they will,” said Lott.
For the first time, Lott says people living in Coffee County who previously had to rely on a well will now have reliable, safe drinking water.
