An army sergeant with ties to Alabama was killed while serving in Afghanistan’s Zabul province.
29-year-old Robert P. Kassin died Sunday near Larzab, when his platoon came under enemy fire.
He was assigned to an infantry unit based out of Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Kassin's wife and two step-daughters live in Alabama.
