The Bush Administration wants the Internet to be a tax-free zone for a while longer.
Treasury Secretary John Snow says the White House will urge Congress to extend the current tax moratorium before it expires in
November.
Speaking to a group of technology company executives in Virginia, Snow didn't say how long of an extension the administration will seek.
The issue of taxing sales over the Internet is a controversial one. Many states say they're being shut out of a growing source of revenue at a time when their deficits are ballooning.
But moratorium backers argue that Internet commerce is still in its early stages and needs to be nurtured.
