Starting this weekend, drivers will have to pay closer attention to more than the holiday traffic. The new move over law goes into effect starting July 1.
The law requires that all vehicles move over one lane when nearing police, fire or other emergency vehicles on 4-lane highways.
The law is designed to give added protection to emergency personnel while assisting motorists or writing citations.
“When a police officer doesn't need to be concerned with traffic, they shouldn't have to. So this law makes it mandatory for people to pull over,” said Police Chief John Powell
Police will be out in full force over the holiday weekend and are authorized to write tickets to motorists not complying with the new law.
